ANG WEE HEAN ADRIANN

ADRIANANG-WFG ORGANISATION
WINFINANCIAL GROUP

I embarked on my journey in the financial advisory sector back in 2001, fresh out of university, initially aiming to supplement my pocket money as an undergraduate Financial Services Consultant (FSC) with AIA. At the time, I was pursuing an Engineering degree and was known for being quiet and reserved. However, this career path unexpectedly gave me a newfound confidence and sense of purpose that I hadn’t found in my engineering studies. Under the mentorship and encouragement of my director, Winnie, I embraced the financial advisory field wholeheartedly, climbing the ranks from an Associate Manager to eventually being promoted to Director in 2023.

Reflecting on my career, the moments that stand out the most are not the individual successes, but the collective achievements and experiences shared with my team. The most rewarding part has been the company-sponsored trips that allowed us to travel the world, not for work but purely for leisure. These experiences underscore the importance of enjoying what we do. My greatest aspiration is to witness my team members reach their personal and professional goals, enjoying the journey as much as the destination.

What keeps me motivated is seeing the tangible impact of our work on the lives of my consultants. Observing them achieve their goals and then pay it forward by mentoring new members of our team is incredibly fulfilling. This cycle of growth and mentorship is what drives me to continue my leadership journey.

This career has significantly enriched my life, enabling me to achieve financial stability while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The flexibility and autonomy afforded by being a financial consultant have allowed me to dedicate time to my family without compromising on our financial goals.

In my view, the most crucial trait for any financial consultant is work ethics. The self-employed nature of this role offers freedom, yet it’s this very freedom that can lead to complacency. Discipline and a strong work ethic are vital for focusing on necessary tasks over convenient ones, ensuring progress towards one’s goals.

Similarly, when looking for potential financial consultants to join our team, I prioritise those who demonstrate positive work ethics and the willingness to step out of their comfort zones. It’s these qualities that are essential for success in the highly competitive and demanding environment of financial advisory.
