My journey into financial advisory began in August 2007, but few know that this career wasn’t just a professional choice for me; it was a calling that resonated with my core values and my innate desire to assist others. My passion for helping people was nurtured through peer counseling during my university years, an experience that profoundly shaped my approach to financial advisory. This, coupled with a recommendation from a friend, led me to my Director, who saw the potential in combining my financial acumen with my passion for support and guidance. Choosing this path over a traditional job allowed me the unique opportunity to impact lives on a daily basis, going beyond the typical confines of a 9-5 role.

The most memorable and rewarding moment of my career thus far was assisting a client’s family through a difficult period, guiding them through the claims process with empathy and support. The gratitude they expressed, referring to me as their “贵人” or benefactor, underscored the deep significance of my role in their lives. This encounter not only reinforced my commitment to this profession but also highlighted the profound impact I could have on individuals and families navigating life’s challenges.

What keeps me motivated is witnessing the tangible benefits that my guidance provides to my clients and their families. Knowing that I play a part in enhancing their financial security and readiness for the future fuels my passion and drive in this career.

In my view, empathy stands out as the most crucial trait for any financial consultant. It’s the ability to genuinely understand and connect with clients, to see beyond the numbers and recognise the human aspect of financial planning. This empathy fosters trust and builds strong, lasting relationships, which are foundational to our work.

To those contemplating a career in financial advisory, my advice is simple: serve with your heart, arm yourself with knowledge, and always put your clients’ interests first. My own financial decisions and advice are guided by personal experience and a commitment to recommend only those solutions I would choose for myself or my family.

In recruitment, I look for individuals who possess a genuine heart for people. It’s essential for a financial consultant to have the sincerity and integrity to advise clients with their best interests at heart. However, one of the biggest challenges in recruitment is overcoming preconceived notions about the industry, preventing potential candidates from realising the truly rewarding nature of a career in financial advisory.
