I embarked on my journey as a financial consultant in May 2020, shortly after completing my engineering diploma at Temasek Polytechnic. Prior to joining the financial industry, I worked part-time in the F&B sector, where I discovered my passion for customer service. Coming from a low-income family, I recognised early on that achieving a higher income was essential for providing a better retirement for my parents. This realisation steered me towards the financial sector, where I found profound satisfaction in helping peers and their families improve their financial health.

One of the most crucial lessons I’ve learned is the significance of financial literacy. My interactions with diverse clients have deepened my understanding of the universal need for financial education. This has inspired me to focus on enlightening clients about financial freedom and the steps necessary to achieve it.

The greatest goal for my career is two-fold. On a personal level, I wish to enable my parents to retire as they are currently in their 70s, and to move out of a rental flat into our own home. Professionally, I aim to build and lead a team of 100 consultants by 2032. These goals drive all my professional efforts, and I plan to achieve them through diligent planning, continuous learning, and unwavering dedication to my clients and team.

When it comes to coaching new consultants, I believe that we should always prioritise clients’ interests above our own financial gains. Thinking from the client’s perspective not only helps in retaining them long-term but also facilitates stronger referrals, which are crucial for building a successful practice.

For those considering a career in this field, be patient and persistent. The results might not be immediate, but consistent effort and dedication will lead to prosperity. This profession demands resilience and a commitment to continuous improvement and client service.
