HARIE HADI KHAIRUDDIN BIN JOE HARIE

Back in 2020, I was still a coffee barista when I met my army batchmate who was then, a first-time MDRT qualifier. He showed me that this career is more than just a sales business (rather a relationship-based one). I was drawn to the concept of how a financial consultant requires working closely with the client to understand their unique financial situations & thereafter, provide professional personalised advice and guidance for them. And that this relationship will be a long-term one. What intrigued me most was that a financial consultant role is wide-ranging whereby at times we may need to engage in legal matters such as LPA and will-writing, financial planning, and more. In 2021, I decided to join the financial advisory industry.

To be able to wake up and help improve a person’s financial well-being keeps me motivated as a FC. Quoting Winston Churchill which summarises my purpose best, “If I had my way, I would write the word ‘insure’ over every door of every cottage and upon the blotting pad of every public man, because I am convinced that, for the sacrifice that is conceivably small, families can be secured against catastrophes which otherwise would smash them forever.”

My manager, Ming Kwang, who is a triathlete, father of 2, husband, son, manager to 8 people and more, is the epitome and ambassador of work-life integration and my biggest inspiration. He taught me how we can blend and balance work and personal life, and have a better overall well-being.

Being a FC has helped me to always be updated with daily news & skills. This has helped me greatly as I can have more meaningful conversations and be able to value-add to wide-ranging individuals from business owners, pregnant mothers, pre-retirees, students etc. The needs of a pre-retiree are almost hugely different to that of a student. Hence, being a FC compels me to think and learn how to tackle the challenges of the multifaceted phases of life.

The most rewarding moments of this career are when I help my clients achieve clarity on their goals and achieving them. I helped a client plan her way from being a single individual, planning for her future wedding, house, and house renovation, to eventually getting married and now, planning for their newborn child’s future education. Being able to devise comprehensive financial planning to help them achieve their financial goals and being blessed with the ability to assure them through good and tough times, can be extremely fulfilling.
