In the last 3 years of being in the financial advisory industry — both as a consultant and a leader — I am a proud recipient of the International Dragon Awards (2019–2022), Million Dollar Round Table (2021) and Court of the Table 2022 as a testament of my service and positive impact to both clients and mentees.

I would have never imagined this becoming a lifelong career when I first started out as an intern, trying to find my footing in financial advisory. But now, I cannot imagine myself doing anything else because I have found my purpose here to positively impact the lives of those around me.

Staying headstrong in times of challenges.
The biggest challenge one would face in this business is the social stigma, and it is important that we remain true to our values and why we do what we do. Being motivated by financial rewards is not the right way to go about this industry. For myself, my drive comes from seeing people around me grow as an individual for their loved ones. In fact, I have rejected prospective clients whose means of funding premiums were questionable, or if I felt that their financial problems could be solved differently.

Adaptability has never been more crucial.
The Covid-19 pandemic taught me that financial consultants must be quick to react and adapt to changes. The acceleration of digitalised services made me realise that it’s important to create even more touchpoints to maintain the bonds that we have with our clients. As a result, I now adopt a hybrid model of consulting and mentoring using technology.

The world needs strong consultants.
As a leader, I always ensure that my associates know exactly why they do what they do, are good at what they do, enjoy what they do, and create that impact on people around us. When I started this career, I thought people would look down on me and not wish to engage in conversation with me. But it’s all about understanding their problems through communication and seeing how we can solve them, no matter how complex they may seem. Trust that there are always people looking out for competent consultants who can help them solve these problems. That’s why we’re here!
