I initiated my journey as a financial consultant with AIAFA in November 2020 while I was still a student advisor, and I transitioned to a full-time role in 2023. Graduating with an Honours degree in Accountancy from the Singapore Institute of Technology, I quickly realised that the conventional path in accountancy was not for me due to its routine nature and lack of interpersonal engagement which I valued highly.

One of my most cherished memories is the affirmation from my parents observing that I enjoy my work, providing them with a sense of security about my career choice. Furthermore, the personal relationships I’ve developed with clients, who treat me like a family member, enhance the job’s rewards. These relationships were epitomised when a client prepared a home-cooked meal for me, which was an incredibly touching gesture that highlighted the personal impact and trust built through my role.

The role of a financial consultant is evergreen as long as one adapts to the evolving industry landscape. It requires a commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to stay relevant. While the future can never be predicted with absolute certainty, the necessity for tailored financial advice will persist as long as individual and collective financial goals and risks exist.

Beyond financial consultations, I serve as a life coach, a walking finance encyclopedia, and a friend to my clients. I assist them in navigating various ‘adulting’ challenges, from choosing the right credit cards to home decor tips and managing familial financial contributions. This comprehensive support helps solidify my role as more than just a consultant but as a trusted advisor and friend celebrating life’s milestones with them.

When recruiting new financial consultants, I prioritise genuineness and a sincere desire to succeed in this field. Authenticity is crucial as it underpins the trust that consultants build with their clients — an indispensable aspect of our profession. Additionally, I focus on nurturing potential leaders to amplify the positive impact on clients’ lives, believing that a genuine consultant can inspire and lead by example in this transformative industry.
