I was trained in Engineering and began my career journey as an assistant engineer. But the best thing that ever happened to me was to engineer a career switch to becoming a financial consultant with AIA. Why? Because I found instant fulfilment and a greater sense of purpose. Being able to make a difference in the lives of my clients also inspired me to make a difference in mine. And I’ve been extremely fulfilled for the past 20 years. This journey has rewarded me with various validations of my switch: I took on the Director role in 2007, am currently a member of the Pinnacle Club 2012 – 2019, and a 2nd runner-up FSM 2017. But to me, the most rewarding part of my job is when I see my clients smile.

Keep true to your vision.
Life is dynamic, and we have no control over what will happen to us, or when will be the next emotional trigger. It has its way to present itself and it is totally fine to fall off the road, lose sight of the light and feel down. Having a vision and a clear direction of where I am going is what keeps me motivated in life.

Not just a Financial Consultant.
My clients have told me that they see me as a friend, confidant, counsellor, and to some, a sister. I cherish this trust they have in me. Some even call me their personal walking glossary, coming to me to explain financial and insurance terms to help them understand and make important decisions. On special occasions, I am also their personal baker who delivers freshly made treats! I revel in all these roles because life is never one dimensional, and we all connect on multiple levels at different times.

Overcoming difficult situations.
I am genuine, sincere and relatable. And being myself have helped me forge deep relationships with my clients that are built on trust. My clients also know me as someone who listens, who is adept at resolving and overcoming difficult situations with a calming presence. I am proud that my clients were able to validate me through their continuous support and referrals to their families and friends.

Making a difference to my team.
Being a Financial Consultant is not a one man show. I also learnt how to lead and become a more complete person. Currently, I’m heading a team of financial consultants who achieved 2nd runner-up for the FSM Category in 2017. This remains one of the most gratifying moments in my journey so far. Because there was great teamwork, and I am heartened that each and everyone of my teammates made this possible.
