I was a naval officer with the Republic of Singapore Navy from 1996 to 2011. In 2010, my dad passed away peacefully at home from a cardiomegaly condition. His death triggered in me an urgency to understand the importance of insurance, and in the process, I got to understand more about how insurance can really help people. After I left the navy, I joined the Advisors Alliance Group so I can help people accumulate, protect and preserve their wealth to ensure their loved ones are taken care of in the event something bad happens to them. I am very grateful to and inspired by my mum, my sister, my wife, my business partner and my life coach, and my dream is to build Singapore’s first insurance team made up of 100 powerful women.
Drawing inspiration from female role models.
Despite spending most of my working life in male-dominated environments, it is the women in my life who have tremendously impacted me and they are the key drivers who keep me motivated as a financial consultant. I draw inspiration from my mom’s strength and perseverance in taking care of and providing for the family, from my sister, Faith’s, guidance and encouragement, from my wife, Eileen’s, unwavering support, to my business partner, Sharleen, and my life coach, Sam, these women have been my source of inspiration and allow me to strive my hardest in my work.
The building blocks of client relationships.
I am a people person and I love building relationships by caring and sharing, hence I enjoy meeting friends and making new ones. This is one of my biggest strengths as a financial consultant.
A philosophy based on the law of reciprocity.
I am the founder of Business Network International (BNI) Singapore, Steadfast Chapter where business owners believe in Givers Gain which is a philosophy based on the law of reciprocity. In the context of networking groups, people who adopt this philosophy dedicate themselves to giving business to our fellow networkers rather than making their foremost concern getting business for themselves. In Steadfast, we embrace a belief of relationship comes first and business will follow and this is one of my biggest unique selling points.
Growing in an ideal environment.
The proudest moment in my journey so far is to be part of the first in Singapore, to achieve the 100 IDA. Because it is a team award, it makes it the strongest accolade I have achieved. I attribute my success in this goal to every one of my family and friends who believed in me when I first shared this goal with them, providing me with encouragement and the drive to get it. I believe that being in Singapore played a part as we have a peaceful and secure environment in which to pursue our goals.
Outside of work.
I picked up golf in 2015 after Singapore Jubilee Watch – Project SG Continuum which raised $50,000 for the Singapore Children’s Society. Now, I play as often as I can, and while I don’t aim to be a single handicapper, I hope to be able to play on 100 different “known” golf courses in the world for charity. I involve my clients in all the charity events by paying it forward.
