LIM KIAN YONG JAMES

I have been in the financial services industry for 13 years after being in the Singapore Navy for over 10 years. Over the last 13 years, I have achieved multiple Million Dollar Round Table (“MDRT”) memberships and International Dragon Awards (“IDA”) and was also part of Singapore’s first 100 IDA team in history to achieve the 100 IDA Team Award 2019. On top of that, I am a member of AIA Financial Advisers Pinnacle Club 2020.

The 3 Rs.
I strongly abide by the 3 Rs — to be resilient, resourceful and responsible. Financial consultants face a lot of rejection in our day to day work, but you must keep yourself strong-headed and equip yourself with the right resources to educate others about the importance of financial planning. And of course, you are responsible to not just your client, but also your associates and the organisation.

Next up — Lifetime MDRT.
While I have managed to attain MDRT memberships in 3 different years, the biggest goal of my career is to ultimately receive the lifetime MDRT membership.

Competency is key.
While you must have integrity and compassion, never forget that what will also keep you going is being competent, and you can never face too much improvement throughout your financial consulting career. You have to always keep yourself resourceful and responsible for yourself and others.
