I have been in the financial advisory industry since early 2016, despite being originally trained as a Chemical Engineer at the National University of Singapore (NUS). I ventured into engineering with an internship that starkly highlighted the isolation of technical work which primarily involved minimal human interaction. This experience was pivotal in reshaping my career aspirations; I realised that my passion lay in a role where I could directly impact people’s lives positively, and have a job that let me interact with people.

The most rewarding moments in my career revolve around the impact I have on my clients’ financial well-being. One particularly memorable instance was when I assisted a client, at his request, to cash out his decades-old policy. He didn’t expect the cash value to be so much, and it was a really old policy purchased in the late 80s. When he received the amount via PayNow, I could hear the joy in his voice when he told me how he didn’t expect AIA to be this efficient in disbursing the monies. I’ll never forget the joy that the policy brought to him and his family.

My motivation stems from the real-life changes I facilitate for my clients. Knowing that my advice and services provide financial security and peace of mind keeps me driven. Each client’s success story and the tangible benefits they enjoy from our interactions remind me of the positive influence I wield as an FC, encouraging me to continue in this rewarding path.

To me, being an FC has honed my interpersonal skills, broadened my understanding of human needs and financial solutions, and allowed me to develop a robust network of clients and professionals. These experiences have not only fostered personal growth but have also enabled me to offer better, more empathetic advice to those I serve. Life’s purpose comes from helping others and making others benefit, and I am glad that I now have the ability to improve not only my family’s lives, but also that of my friends and clients.
