My journey started when I joined AAG for my internship placement. I realised that many people, including my family and friends, were unaware of the importance of financial planning. After witnessing first-hand how lives were saved by insurance, my conviction became even stronger to do this for a career. The idea of a job where I can visit people, talk about dreams and aspirations, and more importantly offer help in tangible ways through financial solutions really appealed to me. I don’t see what I do as a “job”. Rather, it is an endless journey of growth and helping others.
A roller coaster journey.
Yes, it is not easy being a financial consultant. What brings me the most joy is when I’m able to impact the lives of others and cross paths with people from all walks of life. To be their confidante and celebrate their milestones, to be the middleman between my clients and their parents, so their relationship is brought closer because of financial planning. I would not trade these priceless experiences for anything in the world. The amount of rejections we face at the end of the day is all worthwhile.
It’s the small details.
Being a good friend and providing emotional support is not enough. What’s better is when I’m able to help my friends and clients achieve their financial goals, by conducting a thorough analysis of their financial standing. Comprehensive financial planning requires many procedures to attain an optimised portfolio. I love the challenge of interlocking pieces together to form a complete picture. At the end of the day, the gratitude of clients and colleagues is the best part of the job. I am happy and well-equipped to serve my clients with the extensive knowledge that I have.
Treat others how you want to be treated.
When it comes to financial planning, one thing that I always uphold is integrity. I always plan my clients’ finances as though I am planning for myself and my immediate family members — no shortchanging, and always putting their interests above all else. This simple yet timeless guideline holds more value than meets the eye.
No two days are the same.
I love being a financial consultant because there are really no two days that are the same and for me, that provides tremendous motivation. I enjoy being challenged by the analytical process associated with developing a financial plan for clients. It is fulfilling and it never gets boring. It is a rare privilege to be someone’s trusted consultant and to make a difference in people’s lives.
