PAN EN YU GRACE

I decided on joining the financial services industry even before I graduated from university. I have since gone on to become an International Dragon Award winner and Million Dollar Round Table member. These industry recognitions are especially humbling for me, as I had only sought a career where I could earn enough to replace my then-income as a part-time tutor. I credit the business and environment for giving me the courage to dream and achieve.

Everything must come from the heart.
Sincerity and empathy are the most important qualities that a financial consultant should have. Planning for my clients must come from the heart, as “selling” is a transfer of emotions.

Still, a long way to go.
I have much to achieve for both myself and my clients in the coming years, and I hope to eventually become a 3-time Top of the Table qualifier during my time as a financial consultant. While achievements are not everything, they would be an acknowledgement of the hard work I have put into my career and my clients.

Most importantly, do your job well.
While understanding your clients’ emotions and empathising with them is important, never forget that you have to be competent at the core of it all. Essentially, you must have sincerity, empathy and competence. Even though this is only my first job, I have drawn many valuable lessons through the people that I meet, and these experiences have only helped me grow not only professionally, but personally as well.
