I wanted to become an accountant initially, but after thinking about achieving personal growth and seeking purpose in my career path, I decided against it as I didn’t want to be desk-bound for the rest of my life doing P&L statements. One day, I met my friend for lunch who happened to be a financial consultant and realised how happy she was with her work. After asking her more about it, she invited me to join one of her company events to understand more about the business. Since then, I decided to embark on this journey!

Be a good listener to your clients.

Being a financial consultant made me realise how important it is to be a people person, and to be someone open-minded enough to empathise with their various financial backgrounds and needs. That way, we’re able to better craft our recommendations and plan based on their needs and goals.

Be honest and sincere.

Winning the trust of your clients is one of the toughest challenges you’ll face as you embark on this journey. However, it is also immensely rewarding to witness the impact that you’re able to bring to these people and their families.

Think like a friend.

As financial consultants, we have the responsibility to conduct ourselves with integrity, and we have to always put our clients’ interests first. I like to think from the perspective of a close friend, and what they would do to ensure that their friends and loved ones are protected.
