I made a mid-career switch from the oil and gas industry to enter the financial advisory industry. I did so with the intention of looking for a good mentor and personal growth, and it’s been a fulfilling journey since I started 2 years ago.

Treat everyone like family.

I believe that financial consultants need to be truthful to their clients, and treat them like family members. Financial planning is a very personal affair, and without showcasing integrity to your clients, it’s difficult to build that trust for them to believe that your recommendations are in their best interests.

It’s a wild journey ahead.

Life in financial advisory is wildly different day to day, so hang on tight and you’ll understand the true purpose of being a financial consultant!

Have an end goal in mind.

I think all financial consultants, especially new ones, should provide their clients trust, foresight and a glimpse of their end goal. It’s a long journey ahead, so always remind yourself that it’s a marathon, not a sprint!
