My foray into the insurance industry began in my final year in Singapore Management University (SMU). Juggling work and studies was not easy, especially with the steep learning curve of picking up new skills in a brand new industry. I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by peers and mentors who gave me consistent encouragement and kind words that built up to my success today.
In 2019, my efforts and hard work invested in my career finally paid off. Given this was my first job, and my first full year in the industry, achieving the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) membership, and Centurion excellence were huge milestones for me.
Surrounding yourself with people who support and motivate you.
My pillars of support are what spurs me on as a financial consultant. Firstly, the trust and continuous encouragement from all my clients keep me going as I chose this job with the aim of helping those around me. Secondly, leaders like Mr Gabriel Tan and Mr Martin Boey inspire me with their unyielding support and guidance, helping me keep the belief this career path is the right one for me.
Finally, my family members who have never lost faith in me have also given me with the continuous strength to strive and excel further in my career.
Building myself up as someone clients can trust completely.
Though we may have started off as complete strangers, most of my clients now consider me as a friend. I will always be there with a listening ear for them, be it to celebrate their joyous moments, or to think of solutions to concerns they may have. My goal is to make sure I am someone my clients will trust, to be responsive to them and of course, to walk down this life journey till we retire together.
Discipline is one of the most important traits a financial consultant must have.
Discipline plays a huge role in this industry, and I consider it to be one of my biggest strengths as a financial consultant. I strive to remain hardworking, and to keep to the daily routine that I set for myself.
In this career, it is the consistency and willingness to help our clients at any point of time that keeps new cases coming in. I always share knowledge and updates, be it with our clients or colleagues. I believe that when we teach, we grow too. At the end of the day, we just need to do what we need to do and be disciplined. That is how we can be competent as financial consultants.
Putting in the work consistently has led me to achieve goals beyond my expectations.
Achieving the MDRT 2020 is one my proudest accolades in my career so far. I always thought that MDRT was a faraway goal that was almost impossible for me to achieve, but last year, my hard-work and determination paid off. This dream was made possible as I stayed consistent in my efforts and activities, and armed myself with skills and knowledge I needed to focus on my chosen career path. Joining roadshows and not shying from street prospects since the beginning of the year also led to my success.
